They should have gone out on Christmas Eve, but Aiba knew that Nino didn’t like the crowd and it would only turn him grumpy all night. They stayed home with a big portion of KFC chicken and a bunch of Walking Dead series to watch.
“Sorry, I didn’t buy you any birthday cake,” Nino mumbled from his lap.
“I got you, there’s no need for a birthday cake,” Aiba said, caressing Nino’s black hair and landing a soft kiss on his forehead.
“Euw, stop that, would you?” Nino pouted, “your loved-dovey act sometimes bother me to the max.”
“Not mentioning that you love it,” Aiba giggled.
It was their 20th times to celebrate Aiba’s birthday together. Nino would always stay over at Aiba’s place on Christmas Eve, pretending that he had nothing to do, but Aiba knew he was there to be his company, only that Nino was too shy or too cool to admit that.
“My friend actually invited me for a birthday celebration tonight,” Aiba mumbled.
“Who?”
“Jun kun,” Aiba said, waiting for Nino’s reaction because he seemed jealous every time Aiba talked about this Jun.
“Why didn’t you go? I can wait here until you come back,” Nino said, rising up from his lap and looked at Aiba’s face with the usual grumpy expression.
“Nah, it’s too cold. Besides, my Ninomi would be so jealous that he could kill me if I go.”
“I’m not a jealous monster,” Nino frowned, grabbing the KFC chicken and ate it.
“Oh, really?” Aiba smirked at the other guy whose face looked even cuter when he was half-mad.
Aiba knew that Nino would go for a little tour the next day, he was a writer for a travel magazine and his job had nothing to do with Christmas or holiday which sometimes demanded him to work when normal people enjoyed their long weekend. It was so sweet of him that he chose to company Aiba on his birthday, ignoring the fact that he must wake up early tomorrow morning.
“You should sleep,” Aiba said, glancing at the digital clock on the side table.
“I will, when your birthday night is over,” Nino said, leaning his head on Aiba’s shoulder.
They were sitting on Aiba’s old sofa with a tiny blanket which happened to be Aiba’s birthday gift from Nino a long time ago. He didn’t buy any present lately with the excuses that he had no idea what Aiba wanted.
“I got a promotion,” Aiba said after minutes of silence.
“No way,” Nino looked at him with bewilderment, “so, would you propose me tonight?”
Aiba almost choked as he heard what Nino said, he sipped the beer and arrange his breath, but still coughing. “What did you say?”
“Nah, forget it,” Nino waved his hand in front of his face and looked away in embarrassment.
“I would be going to San Francisco for a training and when I get back, I’m gonna propose you.”
Nino’s expression changed and it amused Aiba to the fullest. “I’ll probably get married to another guy by that time.”
“Nobody understands you like I do, Nino. I don’t think they want to marry you,” Aiba laughed and pulled the other into a hug.
“Oh, please, they are lining up to marry me, only that I’m too stupid to choose you,” Nino chuckled, circling his hands around Aiba’s neck gave him a soft kiss on his lips.
Both of them had tried to date somebody else, but they ended up to each other again. Nino’s personality was never a problem to him, on the opposite, he considered it as the cute side which he missed the most when they were separated.
Nino leaned his head on his chest and closed his eyes.
“Happy birthday, Masaki.”
“Thank you, let’s get some sleep,” Aiba said.
The clock had showed midnight, the Christmas euphoria could be heard from their room, but it didn’t prevent them from sleeping. Nino’s breaths had become steady as he fell asleep on top of Aiba and it meant his body would turn stiff and hurt the next day. However, it wasn’t a major problem.
The end
Happy belated birthday to Arashi's tennen, sunshine, mood booster and so on
